Movie Review 101 The Omen

It’s a sign of something to come.

The Omen (2006) by John Moore is a remake of the 1976 horror movie directed by Robert Donner.  The main characters are: Liev Schreiber as Robert Thorn, Julia Stiles as Katherine Thorn, Seamus Davey-Fitzpatrick as Damien Thorn, Mia Farrow as Mrs. Baylock, David Thewlis as Keith Jennings, Pete Postlethwait as Father Brennan, Michael Gambon as Carl Bugenhagen, Bohumil Svarc as Pope, Giovanni Lombardo Radice as Father Spiletto, and Amy Huck as nanny.

Robert Thorn, in an attempt to cover their baby’s death, accepts the Catholic priest’s suggestion to adopt a child.  They own him and treat him as if he is a biological son.  Events later suggests that Robert must kill his son in order to save his life and his wife.

Whether or not you are familiar with the Book of Revelation in the Bible, you will be interested to watch this movie if you seek for mystery.  But you will not get scared in any way.  So this one is recommended to those who have heart attacks or those who cannot control their fears, or to those who become paranoid after watching a horror movie.

Of course, the attempt made for this movie to attain a Dan Brown effect is recognizable but it is not as successful as it aims to be.  You know, you don’t want to get up on your sofa bed when you cannot predict the succeeding events.  Better than this, you will not get over it when you see an unexpected ending.

A child without a mother.  A child to raise.  A child to kill.  What is THE OMEN?
